We understand healing a piercing may seem like a daunting task, but here are some simple steps to take so you can have a happy healthy piercing.
First, congratulations on your new piercing. Remember that less is best while healing.
Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water before cleaning your piercing.
Rinse your piercing twice a day with sterile saline or warm water from your shower, it’s important that you don’t touch your jewelry or move it in any while while rinsing.
DO NOT use any alcohol, peroxide, bactine, dial soap, tea tree oil, or any kinds of ointments. If you wouldn’t put it in your eyeball, then don’t put it on your piercing.
Spraying it directly and running warm water from the shower will help irrigate and soften any crusties and debris on your jewelry, after rinsing you want to gently pat the area dry with a disposable paper towel or gauze - OR - use a hair dryer on a cool setting to dry your piercing.
It’s very important that you DO NOT twist, spin, turn, push or pull your jewelry during the healing process. Any unnecessary movement can cause bacteria or any small debris on your jewelry to go through the channel and prolong healing.
Do your best to try and not sleep on your new piercing while it’s healing. Travel pillow is great if you’re a side sleeper so you’re not putting pressure on it causing it to tilt for hours while sleeping. There is a infographic below to show what can happen if slept on.
